The virtual symposium with live presentations hosted by Kerona Scientific will be held next week Tuesday 30th November and Wednesday 1st December 2021 (09:00h to 12:00h GMT/10:00h-13:00h CET).
The theme of the programme ‘Innovation in the EU Regulation of Plant Protection Products’ was chosen after taking into account feedback from last year’s attendees on the suggested topics for future conferences. We will endeavour to carry this theme through many of the presentations.
Day one of the symposium begins with an opening address by CropLife Europe which provides an overview of the current status of the regulation of plant protection products in the EU and any changes coming down the line. We then start into the summary of the current situation in each of the EU authorisation zones by catching up with the Central and Northern zones. Next, we will hear from the UK CRD on registration in GB/NI and developments since Brexit came into force over a year ago. We finish the morning with a very useful presentation by the EFSA on their role in the evaluation and authorisation of plant protection products and MRL setting procedures.
Day two starts with the summary of zonal authorisation in the Southern zone. We then commence the consideration of the various aspects of innovation under Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009. Since many of the new active substances are microbial in nature, we will consider the requirements for registration of microbial substances under Regulation 1107/2009. While we are all quite familiar with the concept of data protection on regulatory data the other key aspect of intellectual property (IP) protection is patent protection, which is important for consideration in innovation. We will learn more about this area in terms of conducting patent searches. Other interesting areas for industry are plant biostimulants and biopesticides. We will consider the way forward for plant biostimulants under the Fertilising Products Regulation (FPR) 2019/1009 and look at the authorisation of biopesticides under Regulation 1107/2009.
